Artist Statement:
I use my sculptural photography as a means of self-expression; documenting past memories while still focusing on my present and future self. I am most fascinated in finding the beauty in the mundane using everyday objects, places and symbols to represent stories that together make up who I am. My goal is to make work that draws the viewers in and allows them to introspect their own memories in order to find themselves.
My series “Holding Hands” depict images of hands holding different objects but to me, I see portraits of people. These objects are memories I have with different individuals within my life. Some positive, others negative but each one has molded me into who I am today. Each glass form is slightly different in both color and shape from the next because each person shaped me in different ways. Whether it was a first love, mentor or bad influence. Each one has altered or created a part of who I am. But to the viewers they represent something completely different from my own.
My ambrotypes on blown glass are made as an introspection of past, present and future self while also showing the strength and fragility we all have as humans. Moving forward I hope to keep expanding on my “holding hands” and “telling hands” series as I keep exploring new places, meeting new people, and learning who I am.
